A intense 4 day backpacking trip in the Biosphere Reserve Sierra la Laguna, the hike starts close to sea level and takes us to 6,600 ft of altitude—the highest point in the sierra, from where you can contemplate both seas, the pacific sea and the gulf of California.
This hike offers plenty of opportunities to observe endemic species of flora and fauna as you pass through the different ecosystems of the sierra, ranging from tropical dry forest to the oak and pine forest found at higher elevations.
The area it has been described as an "ecological treasure-house" because its unique and fragile ecosystem and the large diversity of endemic flora and fauna species.
Trip Description
4 days — 4 nights
Day 0 Arrive to Huerta Los Mangos in the afternoon of the day . Get gear and food organize and pack ready to go next morning. Visit to the hot springs on the area before dinner. Overnight at Huerta los Mangos base camp.
Day 1 After breakfast, shuttle from Huerta Los Mangos to the base of the sierra where we will start hiking Strenuous hike—6 to 8 hours- to 3,000 ft where we will set up camp for the night. Rest and refresh in the majestic granite pool of water.
Day 2 We will continue the steady hike up carrying backpacks to “La Laguna”, a flat valley at 6000 ft that once was a lagoon. Set up base camp there and spend the rest of the day exploring the area.
Day 3 Carrying day bags hike to the highest point of the sierra. Have lunch there with the amazing view of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez. Then head back to camp to relax and enjoy a campfire under the stars
Day 4 After breakfast and breaking camp head back to the base of the canyon where we will have dinner at a local ranch and refresh ourselves in a beautiful pool of water. Shuttle back to Huerta los Mangos (optional overnight at Huerta los Mangos). |
